  • Ten Facts About Botox You Probably Didn’t Know

If you’re a beauty over forty, Botox is likely the first thing that comes to mind when fine lines and wrinkles start appearing.

Mark Twain once said, “Wrinkles merely mark where smiles have been,” however, smiling isn’t entirely to blame for your wrinkles. And there’s more to Botox injections than minimizing fine lines and wrinkles.  There are actually ten, well they are more, but award-winning beauty blogger Barbie Ritzman is here to share her top 10 facts about Botox you probably didn’t know.

Eureka! Food Poisoning Led to Botox

I got this Botox fact from a dentist I worked with. Botox is short for botulinum toxin, a strain discovered back in the 1820s. It was when Justinus Kerner was trying to figure out what poisoned dozens of Germans. The toxin found in the blood sausages that the Germans ate, Kerner named it “botulism,” which means sausage! So that is how the word botulism has now become related to food poisoning.  This word brings us to our next Botox Fun Fact.

    Botox Is Not Dangerous

Botox is not dangerous; it has been used for cosmetic purposes for over 20 years and is an entirely safe cosmetic treatment. This misconception that Botox is unsafe once again comes from the above german sausage. While Botox is derived from a protein found in botulinum toxin, the levels of botox that are injected are not high enough to be dangerous.

    Botox Can Minimize Migraines

In 2013, the FDA approved Botox as a treatment for migraines. While it’s not really known why the chemical eases symptoms, some suggest it prevents pain signals from reaching nerve endings.

Stop The Sweat With Botox Injections

If you’re a heavy sweater, you might want to book a round of Botox. It can be injected into your skin to block chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate your sweat glands.

Slim The Face And Jawline With Botox Injections

Botox slimming is a newer treatment. This use of Botox can slim the jawline giving the lower face a more contoured and V-shaped face that is slimmer in appearance. This is ideal for women who may have a more masculine square jawline and are looking for a more feminine slimmer jawline.

    Botox Can Help TMJ Conditions

Botox injections in the masseter muscle can benefit patients who grind and clench their teeth. Jaw clenching, teeth grinding or bruxism is a problem that afflicts a large percentage of individuals. This treatment reduces the strength and activity of the muscle, which also completely stops the grinding or clenching of the teeth and jaw.  I think I may look into this for myself as I grind my teeth all of the time.  Instead of having to pay over $800 for a mouth guard, I can get Botox injections instead!

Botox Does NOT Lead To A Frozen Face

Many people think that getting Botox injections will make them lose the ability to make facial expressions. A qualified injector will not make you have that dreaded deer in a headlight look or Botched Botox, for that matter. When adequately injected, Botox looks natural and gives the patient a more youthful and refreshed appearance. The goal is not to look overfilled or frozen but rejuvenated and young.

    Botox Is Not Immediate

When injected correctly, the effects of Botox are gradual and subtle results. Full results are typically visible after seven to 14 days. And may require you to come back for adjustments and possibly more injections. A qualified Dr’s approach is less is more.

Botox Is Only Used For Those Beauties Over Forty With Wrinkles

Actually is better to start Botox injections as a preventative measure for those Dynamic light Wrinkles. The pesky wrinkles appear from facial expressions like smiling or squinting but fade when the expression stops.  Because if you wait until after the wrinkles start to form, it may be more difficult to smooth the skin out again. This is when a filler is necessary.

Botox Is Used To Train Muscles

No, we are not talking about fitness here. Preventative use of Botox is excellent in helping to train those muscles to stop making certain facial expressions. Over time the creases get more profound and more permanent because the skin loses its ability to snap back into place. Guess mom knew something when she said, “Stop making faces, or our favorite, “Stop frowning; your face will freeze that way.” Lessening the number of fine lines and wrinkles that can appear due to these repetitive movements is key to preventing something more severe which is static wrinkles.

So as you can see with these Fun Facts About Botox, this injection is not just used to help minimize fine lines and wrinkles. When injected by a qualified professional using the proper techniques, Botox injections can provide excellent results safely and with little to no downtime.
