Products That Highlight Your Imperfections
Heavy products are not going to cover wrinkles. Instead, they highlight them, by adhering to the wrinkles and settling into those fine lines you already have, making them appear more prominent or worse yet creating ones that don’t really exist without makeup. So stay away from thick, heavy concealers and foundations.
If there is a heavy foundation you love, you can add some moisturizer to it, and this will help to make it a bit thinner. But the bottom line is finding one that provides coverage and does not age you! Personally, I prefer the latter if I had to choose.
Secondly is that trusty powder compact, as beauties powders are not your friend! These too settle into fine lines and make them worse. So ladies put away that 1980’s powder compact and instead use a setting spray to keep your makeup in place.
It’s Time To Prime
Use a Hydrating Primer. I once read that a primer does for your skin what lingerie does for your figure – it smoothens, conceals, flatters, and holds things in place so that everything you put on top of it looks even better! Love that! The main takeaway here is that a good primer will help to minimize the appearance of pores, evens out skintone and helps prevent your foundation from settling into fine lines and wrinkles, as well as helping to keep your makeup last longer.
Also, you can add an extra layer of moisturizer to dry or dehydrated areas before applying any makeup.
How To Determine The Color Of Foundation
This can be difficult, I have found defaulting to a slightly yellow undertone works most of the time as pinks can bring out any redness you may have in your complexion. I prefer to use a liquid foundation with a light-reflecting hint of gold to add a bit of warmth that is more commonly associated with youthful looking skin.
What Type Of Concealer Should I Use
Use an aluminizing concealer to cover dark circles. Also, to keep your concealer from grabbing attention to wrinkles or crow’s feet, apply it only on the inner halves of your under-eye area to cover up the darkness.
How To Apply Foundation To Mature Skin
While using your fingers may seem like the easiest way to apply your foundation, it is not. Applying your makeup with your fingers is often heavy-handed and can cause an uneven, blotchy application, which can make your lines more visible. Hence, using a makeup sponge will ensure an even, seamless finish.
For best results apply your makeup in a stippling motion using a wet sponge, doing so will create more of an airbrushed finish and will allow you to build the coverage you need without the cakiness.
